1st Saturday Canal Boat Ride and Dinner Show

The first Saturday of every month, starting June 1st thru Oct. 5th,
2019, enjoy a fun filled evening of riding on the St. Helena III canal boat and then a dinner show at the Warehouse On The Canal, located just a few blocks from the Canalway Center, in the historical downtown district.

Several shows are offered with a buffet style dinner catered by the Canal Grille Restaurant. After the event, guest can enjoy more free entertainment at Open-Mic Nights, where a variety of performers play at Public Square, located on the corner of N. Canal St. & Market St. and visit more taverns and ice cream shops.

September 7th Theme: Edgar Allan Poe

Enter into the mind of the master of the macabre where Poe will rise from the grave to tell his story in his own words captivating you to join him on this journey into the world of imagination and psychological terror for an exhilarating and audience interactive experience.

Hey Mavis Cruise

Join Laurie and Eddie as they perform a one hour set on the St. Helena III canal boat. They will perform songs from their book/CD of original illustrations and songs based on stories about the Ohio and Erie Canal. The project is funded in part by a grant from the John S. and James L.Knight Foundation.

This event was rescheduled from the June 22nd date which was cancelled due to flooding.

October 5th Theme: Victorian Wake

Based upon ghostly superstitions during the Victorian era, they are so ridiculous, crazy and over the top fun that we call it Historically Hysterical. Imagine participating in the wake of poor Silas who passed away at the end of the 19th century where you are the “mutes” or paid mourners. This is an audience participating event and we encourage you to come dressed in black in the morning of Silas H. Adkinns

Enjoy an evening boat ride to Lock 4 Park featured in the book “The Encyclopedia of Haunted Locations”. Your host is author and paranormal researcher, Sherri Brake. She will share with you the area’s history & legends. The boat is one of only 2 operating canal boats on the Ohio & Erie Canal. The St. Helena III is pulled proudly by two hardy Percheron horses.

THE BARREL ROOM ON CANAL: After our boat ride we walk a block into town stop to visit to the newly established Barrel Room on Canal Street for some wonderful complimentary appetizers. You may purchases adult beverages at your own cost.

2019 Public Rides Schedule:

Weather-Permitting

Spring:
May 11 – May 26 (Saturday & Sunday only)

*No rides will take place on Saturday, June 8th or Sunday, June 9th due to an event in the park and along the towpath.

Autumn:
August 24 – October 13 (Saturday & Sunday only)

The St. Helena III canal boat is pulled by two draft horses, Dan & Izzy, and departs from the Port of Canal Fulton in St. Helena Heritage Park for a one hour ride down the Ohio & Erie Canal. A historian on board provides information on the history of the canal, the boat and the area.

Canal boats rides can be cancelled during dry season due to low water levels or during heavy storms.  We recommend arriving 30 minutes prior to your ride time in order to purchase tickets and view the DVD presentation entitled “Our Canal Heritage” before you board the canal boat.

In addition to public boat rides, the St. Helena III offers a variety of special themed cruises throughout the summer months. Private group charters are also available for groups of 25-55 people.

The City of Canal Fulton is pleased to announce that we now own and operate the St. Helena III Canal Boat.  The Canal Fulton Heritage Society transferred ownership of the canal boat, horses, and related equipment to the City in February 2015.  The City had been operating the canal boat for the Heritage Society since 2009.

Canalway Center Hours:

May to September:

Daily from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

April and October: Saturday and Sunday ONLY 10 a.m – 4 p.m (weather permitting)

Public Rides Ticket Prices:

Adult ages 18-59 $9.00
Senior  ages 60 & up $8.00
Veteran any age $8.00
Youth ages 6-17 $5.00
Child ages 5 & under Free with paid adult

10% discount on public ride ticket price for parties of 10 or more.

2019 Private Group Charters:

Reservations for private group charters can be made by calling the Canal Fulton Canalway Center at 330-854-6835 or by sending an email to canalway@cityofcanalfulton-oh.gov.  School, community, family or tour groups welcome.

Educational Groups start at $185 (includes preschool, K-12, home school & college groups)

Community Groups start at $250 (includes church, club, family & tour groups)
